Patrick Callahan | Military Criminal Defense Lawyer


Patrick Callahan has a proven track record of excellence and success from the very beginning.  He attended Pensacola Christian College where he graduated in 2000, magna cum laude, with degrees in pre-law and history.  He also wrestled on PCC’s National Colligate Wrestling Association national champion team.

Upon graduation he was commissioned in the United States Marine Corps.  He then attended the University of Mississippi School of Law where he graduated, cum laude in 2003.  During the summers while in law school he served on active duty as a trial counsel at Cherry Point and Camp Lejeune.   Also while attending law school he met and married his wife, Kristy, who is an attorney for the Department of Justice.  Following his admission to the Mississippi Bar in the fall of 2003 he attend The Basic School is Quantico, VA and Naval Justice School in Newport, RI.

Following Naval Justice School, 1st Lieutenant Callahan reported to the Marine Corps Recruit Depot, San Diego and was shortly thereafter promoted to the rank of Captain.  He served at MCRD San Diego until he left the Marine Corps in January of 2009.

Captain Callahan spent most of his time at MCRD San Diego serving as a defense counsel.  He quickly gained a reputation as an aggressive and effective counsel.   Captain Callahan contested more cases than any of his peers and quickly became a very experienced litigator.  He was appointed the Senior Defense Counsel at MCRD San Diego and became the most requested Marine Corps defense counsel on the west coast.  He began to handle not only Marine Corps cases all over the west coast but Navy and Coast Guard cases as well.  In recognition of his hard work and outstanding results Captain Callahan was named the Marine Corps’ Defense Counsel of the Year for the Western Region (all of the continental United States west of the Mississippi).

Patrick Callahan has represented hundreds of clients and contested dozens of courts martial with numerous dismissals and acquittals.  He has experience in a wide range of cases   to include premeditated murder, manslaughter, kidnapping, rape, child molestation, manufacturing, distributing and possessing child pornography, distribution of classified materials, burglary, negligent homicide, theft, assault, drill instructor abuse cases, drug use and distribution, obstruction of justice, orders violations, and false official statements.   He has also worked on war crimes cases and has a current top secret clearance.
In addition to his extensive criminal experience, Patrick Callahan also has substantial experience handling military administrative matters from Boards of Inquiry and Administrative Discharge Boards to providing non-judicial punishment (also called captain’s mast or Article 15 proceedings) counsel to adverse fitness report rebuttals.

Patrick Callahan currently resides in San Antonio, TX and handles military cases worldwide.
